Then there was one. The Siegel Stars defeat Maryville 53-47 in the quarterfinals of the Blue Cross Basketball Championships, while Brentwood stunned Blackman 52-49. The state's number one team had an 18-point lead at halftime, only to see Brentwood storm back behind a barrage of threes to close the gap, only missing eight shots in the second half. They took a lead late in the fourth quarter and tied it at 49. Then, Asa Duvall plunged the dagger into the hearts of the Blaze...

Blackman's Darius Thompson finished the day with 18 points while Jauan Jennings tallied 13. The Blaze season ends at 30-and-1. Brentwood will play Southwind in the first semifinal Friday.

The Maryville Rebels tried to take the Siegel Stars out of their game, slowing the pace and being very deliberate. However, Siegel proved they could play that game too. After grabbing a two-point halftime lead, Ryan Jones led the Stars' third-quarter surge...including the last shot of the quarter...

Jones led Siegel with 20-points. Damien Clark had 14 points while Charles Clark chipped in 13. The Stars, who improve to 29-and-5, will face Dyer County in the second semifinal Friday at 11:45. Dyer County defeated Hillsboro 40-35 to advance. WGNS State Farm coverage of the Blue Cross Boys Basketball semifinal game will begin at 11:30 Friday.
