For a 10th year, two mission teams from St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Murfreesboro have returned from Haiti after doing volunteer work. The Haiti Mission Team is now sponsoring a drive to collect clothing, shoes,  and over-the-counter medications for the residents in Haiti.

We were told by one of the volunteers at St. Rose that part of their mission is to support a pre-k through 6th grade school.  They also support the clinic that the church built in that community.

This weekend (March 23 and 24), the church will need  help with donations of new and gently used clothing and shoes for babies, children and teens (males and females).  We are told that since Haiti has a tropical climate, the clothing needs to be right for the climate. Shorts, T-shirts, skirts, underwear, socks, etc.  are needed. The shoes that are donated need to be clean and in good condition.  The mission team says that shoes are important because they help keep the feet from getting cuts which become infected. Infections are of course a doorway for parasites to enter the body and deprive the body of nourishment.

St. Rose volunteers also told us, “We need VITAMINS!  Vitamins for infants, children and teens.”  Liquid vitamins, chewable vitamins, tablets are all helpful. The church suggested that pre-natal vitamins are also valuable for pregnant women who visit the clinic in Haiti. In other medical needs, the clinic could use more Band-Aids, first aid ointments, antacids and skin lotion.

Donations can be dropped off ½ block from St. Rose church at the corner of North Tennessee Blvd and Hazelwood Drive.  Look for a large banner!

Drop off Hours:  Saturday (March 23, 2013) from Noon to 7:00 PM and Sunday (March 24, 2013) from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
