UPDATE: More News on a Fatal Accident that Occurred on I-24 Wednesday Afternoon in Rutherford County

Rutherford County, TN – UPDATE: A fatal accident occurred on I-24 in Rutherford County on Wednesday around 1:30 in the afternoon. The wreck happened near exit 89 and according to the THP, "This is between Murfreesboro and the Buchanan exit."

61-Year-old Carolyn Stout was driving a Chrysler minivan along Interstate 24 when she rear-ended a Freightliner truck. After striking the big rig, her van spun-around and traveled into the left median where it came to a final rest. Mrs. Stout was seriously injured and had to be transported by LifeFlight Helicopter to a hospital in Nashville. The Highway Patrol confirmed that Stout’s daughter, who was identified as 34-year-old Misti Stout, was killed in the collision. According to the THP, both mother and daughter were wearing their seatbelts when the accident occurred. Both are from Tennessee.

The driver and passenger of the big rig were identified as 25-year-old Christopher Carrillo and 49-year-old Manuel Rubio Cervantes, both from California. Neither of the two were injured and no charges will be filed against them. However, the official THP report shows that charges are pending against 61-year-old Carolyn Stout, who was transported to a hospital in Nashville by LifeFlight helicopter. The report stated the charges are, “Pending the outcome of the investigation.” However,  this is a routine measure in fatal accidents.
