New Principals at Overall Creek and Bradley Academy

(MURFREESBORO)Murfreesboro City Schools recently conducted an extensive search and interview process for two new principals to join our team as the leaders of Overall Creek and Bradley Academy. In July, 2023 Jenny Ortiz will become the Overall Creek principal and Dr. Jeremy Lewis takes over as principal at Bradley Academy. 

Jenny Ortiz: Overall Creek Elementary School 

Dr. Trey Duke, Director of Murfreesboro City Schools, announced the appointment of Ortiz as Principal replacing Don Bartch who will be assuming the role of Assistant Superintendent of Support Services at MCS.

Ortiz has been with Murfreesboro City Schools for over 18 years and served in an administrator role since 2012.  In 2019, joined Overall Creek as Assistant Principal. Ortiz is a respected administrator and an advocate for children.  

Overall Creek was the first Tennessee STEM designated school in Murfreesboro and one of the first elementary schools in the state to receive this prestigious designation.  Likewise, Overall Creek has served as a host school the Tennessee Rural STEM Collaborative and served as a model elementary STEM school for many district and school leader tours. The enrollment is approximately 1,000 students. 

Dr. Jeremy Lewis: Bradley Academy 

Dr. Jeremy Lewis will replace Ken Rocha as principal who was recently appointed as the Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services at MCS. 

Lewis, a resident of Murfreesboro, has served as the Executive Principal at Croft Design Center Middle School in Nashville for the past seven years. Additionally, he brings experience in other school leadership roles including Dean of Instruction and Assistant Principal. Moreover, Lewis has a history of developing effective community partnerships incorporated with student learning and success. 

Lewis received his Doctorate in Leadership and Professional Practice from Trevecca Nazarene University, Master of Science in Education Leadership from Christian Brothers University in Memphis, and his Bachelor’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University.

Bradley Academy is an integrated arts school with a Tennessee STEM designation.  Teachers are incorporating problem solving, research, and application to continuously challenge students academically.

Located at 511 Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd., Bradley Academy serves nearly 400 students in kindergarten through 6th grade. In 2006 Bradley Academy became a Value Plus School, with an emphasis was on integrating theatre, dance, and visual arts into students’ learning experiences. Additionally, Bradley Academy received the Tennessee STEM Designation in March of 2020.
