(MURFREESBORO) Members of the Rutherford County Historical Society held their May meeting Monday (5/15/2023) night at Oaklands Mansion. The group's President Pettus Read said . . .

And he noted, the easiest way to join the Historical Society is to visit their Saturday morning "historical discussions" at the old, one-room Ransom Schoolhouse, 717 N. Academy Street, and sign-up. The membership is for your entire family, just $25 per year.

As President Read noted, they focus on local meetings with both the monthly meetings as well as in the quarterly newsletter.

Monday night's meeting gave the history of Appalachain style square dancing as well as buck dancing. Cripple Creek Cloggers Founder Steve Cates called the square dances and Society members joined-in.

Cates founded the Cripple Creek Cloggers as a 4-H project at Kittrell School 56-years ago. The dance troupe now travels the world and shares our history.

June 4-11, 2023 again brings the Cripple Creek Clogger's International FolkFest to Middle Tennessee. Cates told what countries will perform this summer . . .
