Shawn Middleton has resigned as head coach of the Siegel softball team. His Lady Stars teams finished state runner up in two Spring Fling appearances and a record of 161-32 in his six-seasons as head coach. In district play, Middleton's teams have won five regular season titles in a row with a record of 50-4.

He told WGNS that it was time to focus more on family and his young grandchildren.

Additionally, Middleton said, "I am very fortunate over the past 6 years to coach so many great athletes. Those relationships are for a lifetime, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for them.

Thank you, Mr. Creasy, for giving me the opportunity to take over the softball program and lead this group of young ladies over the past several years. The memories and great games will never be forgotten. Thank you to Coach Wyant, for all your support and friendship over my tenure.

To all my players past and present thank you for the opportunity to coach you. It has been a great ride with so many memorable moments. I can’t wait to watch your careers and lives unfold over the years to come.

To all the coaches over the years, thank you for your tireless efforts to build this program into what it is today. Your relationships with both players and coaches have made this program elite.

Finally, DeAnn and Jordan thank you for always being the backbone and allowing me to coach over the past several years. You have both given up a lot in your lives to support every team I ever coached. I hope over the years to come I can give you both back a little of what you gave in support to me for so many years. Thank you and I love you both.

Life is not about the breaths you take, it’s the moments that take your breath away. Thank you, Siegel High Softball, for many breath-taking moments"

Middleton will stay at Siegel as Graduation Coach.

The search will begin for the next head coach by Principal Larry Creasy and his athletic staff.
