RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - Middle Tennessee Electric is moving a substation in Williamson County to Rutherford County... That was Amy Byers, Public Relations Coordinator for MTE. Original plans to move the substation equipment on Tuesday had to be scrubbed when they realized the transport vehicle would sink into the soft gravel covered terrain. To prevent sinking on Thursday, contractors placed steel plates on top of the gravel to move it across the landscape.

Byers said the reason for the relocation of substation equipment is growth... The electric provider will install new equipment in Williamson County help with continued growth there.

This move will facilitate the installation of an upgraded transformer at the Owl Hollow substation and the expansion of a substation in Rutherford County for improved electric grid reliability.

Areas of road impacted by the move between Williamson and Rutherford Counties include: Duplex Road will be nearly shut down as the load progresses along the approximately 60-mile route through four counties, which also includes Owl Hollow Road, Lewisburg Pike (US 431), State Route 99, Nashville Highway (US 31A), Eagleville Pike (SR 99), Highway 41A, SR 99 (New Salem Highway), Veterans Parkway, Burnt Knob Road, Manson Pike, Florence Road, Old Nashville Highway and Southern Place. This substation move is a state-permitted heavy-haul operation.
