Mar 28, 2013 at 12:27 pm by Bryan Barrett

United Way’s recent Days of Action, in partnership with MTSU’s The Big Event, was the largest Days of Action to date with 678 volunteers completing 2,594 hours of service and 40 projects.

This year’s Days of Action volunteers did yard work, general cleaning, construction and other projects for agencies in Rutherford and Cannon Counties that impact the areas of education, income, health and rebuilding lives.

Jonathan Berezo, team captain for the General Mills team, commented on the event saying, “At General Mills, we love participating in the United Way Days of Action. Not only is it a great way to give back to the community, it is a wonderful opportunity to see the fantastic partner agencies at work. At the end of the day, I think our employees get more out of the experience than those that we help.”

A new addition to this year’s Days of Action was Speed Volunteering hosted at the United Way office and the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce. Volunteers assembled 900 healthy snack packets for kids at afterschool programs in Rutherford and Cannon Counties.

Volunteers also enjoyed a volunteer appreciation tailgate sponsored by Atmos Energy before the MTSU Baseball game on Friday, March 22.

This year’s event was sponsored by Nissan, Publix Super Markets Charities, Regions Bank and Middle Tennessee Medical Center. Official partners for the event included MTSU Student Government Association and MT Athletics.
