A newly released report by the State of Tennessee uncovers some sobering statistics about children. During the year of the study, 28 child deaths were reported in Rutherford County. The population of newborn to 17-year olds when the study was conducted in 2011 stood at 69,464.
The study also released the information on how the children died.

- Homicide 4.9 %
- Suicide 1.6 %
- Undetermined 10.0 %
- Pending 0.4 %
- Unknown 1.1 %
In addition to the death rate of children, the study determined that 4.9 babies in every 1,000 live births die in our community each year.
