State Troopers say Erwin ran off the left side of the roadway, entered into the center median, overcorrected and ultimately struck a speed limit sign. His truck came to a final rest on the shoulder of the road facing south, according to the THP. Evidently, Erwin’s pickup was the only vehicle involved in the accident. Mr. Erwin was the only occupant of his pickup and no other injuries were reported.

The accident happened on HWY 231 South near the intersection of HWY 269, or Walnut Grove Road.

The father of the man killed in the Friday accident, who shared the same name as his son, served as the Mayor of LaVergne between 2006 and 2010.
