That magical time is upon us. Yes, that’s right, it is high school football time here in Tennessee. With that in mind, let’s hear what some of the Rutherford County coaches are saying about the 2023 season.

OAKLAND HEAD COACH KEVIN CREASY ON THE WHAT’S NEXT MENTALITY OF THE THREE-TIME DEFENDING CLASS 6A CHAMPION PATRIOTS

“When we slip past being hungry and humble we have had a bad day. We can’t afford to have bad days especially this time of year.”

SMYRNA HEAD COACH MATT WILLIAMS ON THE IMPORTANCE OF THE BULLDOG TRADITION AS THE OLDEST FOOTBALL PROGRAM IN RUTHERFORD COUNTY

“The Bulldog tradition plays a part with every team every season. We will always strive to be the best class 6A team in the state and that never changes. Our kids are very aware of the tradition at our school, but at the same time, we understand accomplishments from years past will not get us wins. The one thing the Bulldog tradition means to us is we have a standard for how we work.”

LAVERGNE HEAD COACH MIKE WOODWARD ON HOW A TEAM-FIRST MENTALITY WILL BENEFIT THE WOLVERINES IN 2023

“A team-first mentality will play a huge factor in our success. Guys need to understand their importance as part of a team. They will have opportunities to make plays and there will be other times when they must make sacrifices to free up a teammate to make a play.”

BLACKMAN HEAD COACH MATT KRIESKY ON HOW WE WILL BUILD A FIRE IN HIS FIRST YEAR AS THE LEADER OF THE BLAZE

“Our goal as a staff here at Blackman is simple. We want to see all of our players continue to get better each week throughout the entire season.”

EAGLEVILLE HEAD COACH FLOYD WALKER ON THE KEY TO HIS FOOTBALL TEAM FLYING AT THE SAME ALTITUDE AS THE REST OF A HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL EAGLE ATHLETIC PROGRAM

“Our school has a lot to be proud of in our athletic programs. We have to have consistent and accountable quarterback play to make our offense go. We hope to live up to the expectations other sports teams have created.”

RIVERDALE HEAD COACH WILL KRIESKY ON THE HARD-HITTING DEFENSIVE MENTALITY THAT HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED DURING HIS TENURE AS LEADER OF THE WARRIORS

“We are replacing some good players on the defensive side of the ball but our physical approach will remain the same. Our goal is to continue what has been established by past squads on that side of the ball and compliment that with a wide-open offense.”

ROCKVALE HEAD COACH BRIAN GUTHRIE ON THE OFFENSIVE WEAPONRY AND HOW THE ROCKETS HOPE TO BLAST OFF THIS SEASON

“We want to play fast and hope for more of the same excitement we had early last season. I think we have lots of pieces to the puzzle. I think we are solid at the skilled positions and are pretty good up front. We are faster on defense this year so that means we have a chance to do good things.”

SIEGEL STARS HEAD COACH ADAM RENSHAW ON KEEPING HIS STARS SHINING AFTER A SOLID SEASON LAST YEAR AND THE OPENING OF A NEW FOOTBALL FIELD THIS YEAR.

“We are very excited about the new football field. It has been a team effort from the entire school and the Siegel community. Seeing this all come together has been really awesome and has created a lot of excitement. These Stars are the ones that keep me shining.”

STEWARTS CREEK HEAD COACH BEN CAUDILL ON ESTABLISHING TRADITION AND BUILDING OFF THE MOMENTUM OF A STRONG SHOWING IN 2022

“We are in some exciting times here at Stewarts Creek and we look forward to making this a football school. Building tradition is something that is ongoing. We made our first playoff appearance in 2019 and that has helped us understand the importance of extending your season. Our facility improvements have been tremendous and our rivalry games within the County have become very special. We are looking very forward to the 2023 season.”
