Remembering long-time Rutherford County high school football coach Bobby Wells, the season-opening matchup between Smyrna and Riverdale has been dubbed, “The Bobby Bowl”.
As a gridiron leader that also taught the game of life for over three decades, the influence of Bobby Wells has been enormous in this area. To honor this dedicated man, both Smyrna, and Riverdale will wear his initials on their helmets for the entire season. Beginning his coaching career at Smyrna in 1988, he raised Dogs until 2003. After a five-year stint at Blackman, he became a Warrior and guided them through winning ways until 2022.
To honor this very honorable man, we ask former players and members of his coaching fraternity to come out on Friday, August 18 to the Bobby Bowl at Riverdale high school. A pre-game ceremony will allow former players and coaches onto the field for a moment of silence. Tickets can be purchased at gofan.com or at the gate. Kickoff is slated for 7 pm.
