(RUTHERFORD COUNTY) Have you ever seen a SUPER BLUE MOON? Astronomers say that a SUPER BLUE MOON occurs when the moon is closest to the earth and when it is the brightest. Here in the Northern hemisphere, that will occur on the moon’s 29th orbit of the earth. For Tennesseans that translates to approximately 8:35PM (CDT) Thursday night (8/31/2023).
Some even say that Thursday’s SUPER BLUE MOON may have lasting spiritual consequences. In fact, superstitions range from fertility to betrayal and all points in between.
It is agreed that the SUPER BLUE MOON will be 14 per cent larger and approximately 30 per cent brighter than other full-moons.
Some say, “Don’t stare at the moon, or you’ll get pregnant.”
Well, I don’t think that holds water. However, picking flowers under the SUPER BLUE MOON is said to increase you luck.
Here are some tips from the experts on the best way to see it:
- Get as high up as you can (mountains, hills, etc.)
- Turn off the lights around you
- Use a tripod for your camera—get clearer photos will less fuzziness.
Oh, and remember to be eating pizza when the moon hits your eye---or is that something else? Well, that’s the SUPER BLUE MOON advice from your Good Neighbor astronomers.
