Dump truck Scatters Dirt Over I-24 After Collision with Sedan Near I-840

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN – There was quite the mess on I-24 near I-840 Monday afternoon. The commotion was in the westbound lane heading towards Nashville.


According to the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office, a dump truck and a vehicle were involved in a collision that involved a full truckload of dirt. Deputies reported the dump-truck spilled the dirt all over the interstate when it overturned. The crash also led to a vehicle fire, directly after the 4-door sedan and dump-truck collided around 2 PM.

Delays lasted for several hours as responders worked to clear the dirt, that equaled lot's of dust scattering into all lanes of traffic. Many motorist exited the interstate at Medical Center Parkway and made there way to NW Broad Street, eventually making it past Smyrna where they were able to get back onto I-24. Others patiently waited for at least one lane to reopen. Around Two hours after the accident occurred all lanes were reopened to traffic.
