(Silver Point, TN)  A 69-year old man from neighboring Cannon County drowned in the Caney Fork River around 11:00 o'clock Saturday (10/28/2023) morning. A husband and wife put their two kayaks in at the Buffalo Valley Boat Ramp. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) was notified about the incident.

Deputies from the Putnam County Sheriffs Office along with the TWRA and THP quickly arrived on-the-scene. In fact, a THP helicopter spotted the deceased male in about 8-feet of water. He was about a hundred yards from the flipped kayak.

The TWRA's preliminary investigation shows that the victim and his wife each had a kayak and were enjoying the beautiful fall Saturday. Sadly, the husband's kayak kit a tree and flipped. He was not wearing a life-jacket. He was pronounced deceased at the scene and taken to the DeKalb County Hospital.

TWRA reports that this was the 24th boating fatality this year.
