If you love history, you'll want to attend the 6:30 Thursday evening, April 18th, meeting of the Rutherford County Historical Society. It will be at the renovated Ranson School building at 717 North Academy Street and will honor Alice Newsome Ray and Ernie Johns.
Alice, a charter member and first treasurer of the Society, turned 97 years young in February. Ernie, also a charter member and former president of the Society, has been named Rutherford County Historian, Emeritus, by the Rutherford County Commission, after serving in the position for over 30 years.
Those attending the meeting will have the chance to wish Ernie and Alice happiness and to tour the school building that was donated to the Society by the Arnett family.
Several members, particularly E.C. and Barbara Tolbert have been transforming one of the rooms into a vintage 1920's classroom, with desks, maps, blackboards, inkwells, books, and more. Those attending will also have the chance to browse and purchase from our large selection of historical publications.
