(La VERGNE, TN) In honor of La Vergne Police Officer Brandon Joyner, who died Monday in a single-vehicle accident, his patrol vehicle has been set up in front of La Vergne's City Hall. Anyone feeling so moved is welcome to place flowers on the hood of his vehicle.
"Brandon was a dedicated and well-respected member of the La Vergne Police Department," says Deputy Chief Brent Hatcher. "He was a loving family man and an honorable soldier. He was a friend to many, and beloved by even more. Brandon was a man of few words but was always pleasant, professional, and polite. I know I speak for all of us when I say we are better for having known him.”
Funeral arrangements for Officer Brandon will be this coming Monday (12/18/2023) at Grace Church, 108 Stones River Road, La Vergne. The visitation will be 10:00AM - 12:30PM and the funeral service will be 1:00PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to FOP Percy Priest Lodge #85, P.O. Box 921, La Vergne, TN 37086.
Officer Joyner will be escorted from Murfreesboro to the City of La Vergne on Monday, December 18 prior to his visitation and funeral at Grace Church on Stones River Road. The procession is expected to drive past City Hall, 5093 Murfreesboro Road, sometime after 9:30 a.m.
As you recall, this past Monday (12/11/2023) morning morning a truck was found in a creek that is just off Fitzhugh Blvd. near the Smyrna-Rutherford County Airport and golf course. Emergency Management retrieved the vehicle. 46-Year old La Vergne Police Officer Brandon Joyner died in this single-vehicle accident. He had served six-years with La Vergne Police.
"This department has endured many struggles," says Chief Chris Moews. "I am in awe of how strong our department is, and how they have persevered and continue to serve this community with grace, loyalty, and unwavering dedication."
This was Officer Joyner's private vehicle and he was not on duty.
The La Vergne Police Facebook page requests, "We are asking for prayers for the family of Officer Joyner as well as our police department and city as we begin to mourn. We also ask for privacy for Officer Joyner’s personal family and LPD family as we process and deal with this loss."
Officer Joyner was both a U.S. Army veteran and active member of the Tennessee National Guard. He will be buried with full military honors. He was 46 years old and a six-year veteran of the La Vergne Police Department.
