A lengthy 22-month investigation into the tragic and fatal shooting of Nashville resident David Hernandez in February 2021 has culminated in the indictment of two individuals: 31-year-old Dimetrius Ford and his girlfriend, 24-year-old Carlissia Jones. Both now face charges of first-degree murder in connection with the case.

Ford, currently incarcerated in the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center, has been entangled in legal proceedings since March 2021 for the murder of Carlos Vazquez in Murfreesboro. Federal agents located Ford in Detroit, Michigan, where he was apprehended and later transferred to Tennessee. Since his transfer in August of 2022, Ford has been held in Rutherford County, facing charges related to the murder of Mr. Vazquez. A trial for the murder of Vaquez is scheduled to take place in Murfreesboro on January 22, 2024.

Upon conclusion of the Vazquez case, Ford will be transported to Nashville to face the first-degree murder charges there, which are tied to the death of Mr. Hernandez, whose life was tragically cut short in the 900 block of Morrison Street.

Carlissia Jones, Ford's girlfriend was arrested on the Nashville indictment by U.S. Marshals in Clarksdale, Mississippi, situated in the historic Mississippi Delta Region. Jones will be extradited to Nashville in the near future to face charges related to the homicide in Davidson County.

The investigation, spearheaded by Homicide Unit Detective Tyler Manivong, uncovered that Ford and Jones had traveled to Nashville a few days before the fateful incident. While Ford has family ties in Davidson County, Jones hails from Pennsylvania. According to the investigation, Ford allegedly contacted David Hernandez prior to the murder, instructing him to drive to Morrison Street, where the fatal shooting occurred inside a vehicle. The motive behind the crime is believed to be linked to the illegal drug trade.

The legal proceedings are expected to shed light on the events surrounding this tragic incident and perhaps provide some element of closure to the impacted families of both Carlos Vazquez and of David Hernandez. As the cases move forward, they will be closely monitored by law enforcement who have been working hard to bring justice in the face of such heinous crimes.
