MURFREESBORO, TN - The Murfreesboro Police Department Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT) is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal single-vehicle crash that claimed the life of 18-year-old Mason Alexander Roland on Friday, December 29, 2023. The incident occurred on Lebanon Pike near Cherry Lane, leaving the community in shock and mourning.

Just 4-days after Christmas on Friday night at 11:30 PM, emergency personnel responded to the scene where Roland was found unresponsive inside a 2007 Hummer H3. Reports indicate Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department personnel worked tirelessly, employing the jaws of life to extricate Roland from the mangled SUV. Tragically, despite their efforts, Roland succumbed to his injuries at the crash site.

According to the preliminary investigation conducted by FACT, the tragic sequence of events unfolded just before Roland reached the intersection. The H3 veered off the right side of Lebanon Pike, traversed a grassy area, and collided with both a utility pole and a tree before ultimately overturning onto its side.

The force of the impact caused power lines to hang dangerously low over the roadway, prompting authorities to close Lebanon Pike into the early morning hours of Saturday, December 30, 2023. Traffic was rerouted as investigators with the Murfreesboro Police Department meticulously examined the crash scene, working in tandem with utility crews to replace the damaged pole.

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information or potential witnesses to come forward and assist in shedding light on the events leading up to the crash. The Murfreesboro Police Department is committed to a thorough and comprehensive inquiry to determine the cause of this devastating accident.
