Murfreesboro NAACP to Host Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast Celebration

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Murfreesboro chapter of the NAACP is gearing up for its annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast Celebration, a community event that promises to be both inspiring and uplifting. The breakfast, themed "The time is always right to do what's right," after a quote by Martin Luther King, Jr., will take place on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at the MTSU James Union Building, located at 516 Alma Mater Drive in Murfreesboro.

This in-person gathering invites community members to come together and honor the enduring legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The celebration will feature a delicious breakfast, an engaging speech, and uplifting music, providing attendees with a meaningful and enriching experience.

The guest speaker for this year's event will be Roland Butler III of Walnut Grove Church, who will have insightful and impactful reflections on the teachings and contributions of Dr. King. The Murfreesboro NAACP is excited to welcome the community to join in commemorating the vision of equality and justice that Dr. King championed throughout his life.

Taking place on the first Saturday after Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which falls on Monday, January 15 this year, the event aligns with the federal holiday dedicated to honoring the civil rights icon. Born on January 15, 1929, Martin Luther King Jr.'s advocacy for racial equality, the working class, and the oppressed has left an indelible mark on the world.

In recognition of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, national parks across the country will waive entrance fees on Monday, January 15, 2024, making it the first fee-free day of the year. This day is also designated as a day of service, where thousands of volunteers participate in service projects, including those at national parks.
