Murfreesboro Sliding To "Normal"

Jan 17, 2024 at 06:07 pm by WGNS

(MURFREESBORO) City Hall and most City facilities are sliding back to normal and will be open Thursday (1/18) as Murfreesboro government operations resumw with some modified work shifts necessary following the Arctic blast that swept across much of the nation.

Boro Roads

Murfreesboro road conditions have improved as the Street Department has worked diligently to remove snow and ice, applying salt to make major roadways clear and passable. Forecasts for Thursday include warmer temperatures with a possible wintry mix or precipitation, but driving conditions are anticipated to be better than Wednesday.

Murfreesboro Garbage Pickup

Solid Waste routes for City garbage collection will continue to run on alternate adjusted schedule as follows:

          Tuesday routes will be picked up Thursday;

          Thursday routes will be picked up Friday;

          Friday routes will be picked up Saturday;

          Monday's routes were completed Wednesday;

Garbage containers should be out on street by 6 a.m.

Public Bus Service

Murfreesboro Transit will operate regular routes Thursday.

Parks and Rec

Parks and Recreation facilities will open Thursday with normal operating hours after crews conducted snow and ice removal at facilities' parking lots and entrances. Some outdoor park facilities may have limited or reduced access to portions of the facilities due to remaining snow and ice or wet conditions. Patrons are urged to exercise caution. Golf courses, however, will remain closed until course conditions improve.

City Schools and ESP

City Schools, included ESP, will remain closed Thursday, Jan. 18. A decision will be made by MCS administrators on school and ESP for Friday by 4 p.m. Thursday.

Murfreesboro Airport

The Murfreesboro Municipal Airport and Runway 18-36 will remain closed Thursday, Jan. 18. The terminal will be open for business.

Water Issues

Water Resources Customer Services, Administration, and Engineering Offices will operate normal hours. Snow and ice removal around buildings has been completed.

Fire, Police, Street, Solid Wate, Water Resources, and Fleet departments will transition from emergency and critical operations to normal operations. Administrative offices for these departments will be open, including the Murfreesboro Police Department Records Section and Property & Evidence.

City Council

The City Council Workshop meeting scheduled at 11:30, Thursday, Jan. 18, will proceed as scheduled. Airport and Parks and Recreation staff conducted snow and ice removal of the parking lot and pedestrian sidewalks.

Boro Motorists

Motorists are urged to “Take It Slow” in ice and snow. If you are involved in a minor vehicle crash without injuries, the Murfreesboro Police Department asks you to move your vehicle out of the roadway, if possible, to avoid secondary crashes. The non-emergency number for the MPD is 615-893-1311.
