SMYRNA, TN - Smyrna is making a meaningful move with the Captain Jeff Kuss, USMC Memorial Scholarship Program, granting $2,000 scholarships to three local high school seniors. The Smyrna Town Council gave the green light to this initiative during its January meeting, opening the opportunity to public school, charter school, and home-schooled seniors in Smyrna.

Funding for these scholarships comes from private donations and the proceeds of Smyrna's annual Top Gun Night Run – a cool nighttime 6K race. Not only does the run contribute to the scholarships, but it also supports the upkeep of the Kuss memorial in Smyrna.

These scholarships aren't just about financial aid; they're a way to keep Captain Jeff Kuss' memory alive in Smyrna. Back in 2016, during practice for the Navy Blue Angels' show at the Great Tennessee Air Show, Kuss tragically lost his life when his jet crashed. This initiative stands as a heartfelt tribute to his legacy.
