LA VERGNE, TN - One of the officers shot in La Vergne this past October was able to make the return to light duty – and that return took place more than three months after the incident occurred... A little more than 3-months ago, Officer Ashley Boleyjack was responding to a call on October 21, 2023 along Stones River Road with Officer Greg Kern. Once at the location, Boleyjack and Kern got into an altercation with a subject who ended up shooting both officers. The two were treated for injuries and later released from the hospital.

At home, the two started the long term recovery process to heal from their injuries. According to LaVergne Police Chief Chris Moews, Officer Boleyjack is the first to return to work... The department held a welcome back party for Officer Boleyjack, which also showed their appreciation for Officer Kern.

The call that led to the injuries suffered by the two officers in La Vergne involved a man who was wanted by authorities. That wanted suspect was the estranged son of Nashville Metro Police Chief John Drake.

After the La Vergne officers were shot, 38-year-old suspect John C. Drake continued to elude officers and was named to TBIs Most Wanted List.

Several days after the TBI added Drake to their Most Wanted List, he was tracked down to a neighborhood in Nashville. About 20-miles away from the shooting in La Vergne, Drake was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
