(MURFREESBORO, TN) Would you like to get a Technician Class amateur radio license from the Federal Communications Commission? The Stones River Amateur Radio Club will be offering a free class that prepares you to take the test.

Classes will be frm 9AM-noon every Saturday in March, except on March 16--no class that date. There will be a special class on March 30 that wraps-up with the FCC test. Again, this class is designed to introduce the student to Amateur (Ham) Radion and help them to successfully pass the Federal Communications (FCC) Technician license exam.

Classes will be taught in the Rutherford County Emergency Operation Center (EOC) at 1220 W. College St., the old National Guard location.

There is no charge for the class, as this is one of the ways SRARC gives back to the community and grows the overall ham radio network of operators.

There is no specific required book as there are many on the market that cover the same material though they all present the material in a different manner.  As everyone has a different learning style materials are available ranging from printed books, online programs, smartphone apps, and YouTube videos. In the past we have recommended Technician Class: Pass Your Amateur Radio Technician Class Test - The Easy Way available from Amazon. The PowerPoint that will be used in the class is based on passed on the ARRL Ham Radio License Manual 5th edition also available at Amazon.

There are many other books and online sites that are great educational resources, be careful not to overload yourself by trying to read and study everything available.
