(MURFREESBORO) The Christy-Houston Foundation awarded a $195,000 grant to Journeys in Community Living. The funds will help the nonprofit agency continue to provide transportation to adults with disabilities in Rutherford County. Eight new vehicles were purchased, including two wheelchair-accessible vans.

Journeys in Community Living Executive Director Frances Cook said, "We are thankful for the support Christy-Houston Foundation provides to our community nonprofit organizations! This generous donation allowed us to replace deteriorating high mileage vehicles and purchase new vehicles for our community day program expansion.”

The eight vehicles purchased cost a total of $269,113.

Transportation is essential for people with disabilities to participate in society. It impacts their access to healthcare, basic goods and services, interactions with friends and family, ability to work or attend school, and other activities.

Journeys hosted a site visit for Anne Davis, president of the Christy Houston Foundation, where she was able to see the vehicles purchased with the grant money and visit with the staff and board members.

Davis commented, “The foundation is excited to continue to support your mission and cause of helping adults with disabilities in this community have a better quality of life. We thank you, and the community thanks you. You all are making a difference.”

Journeys In Community Living was founded in 1975 and provides community day services, workforce, employment training, healthcare oversight, residential and transportation services for more than 100 adults with disabilities.
