(MURFREESBORO) On Friday (3/1/2024) Riverdale High School again had its “Brave The Shave” event to raise money for childhood cancer research.

One of Riverdale’s School Resource Officer’s had both his hair and beard shaved for this cause. SRO Anthony Bragg with the Rutherford County Sheriffs Office raised more than $400 for cutting his hair, along with an additional $200 for the beard.

Bragg kept the “shedding of the locks” in the family.  A professional barber and a student shaved Bragg’s head. His wife, Blanca Alvarez, an English as a second language assistant at the school, carefully shaved his beard.

The annual event to raise money for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation began in 2013 when Coach Lamar Davis learned that the daughter of former football player had cancer. Sadly, Michael Smallwood’s daughter, Leah, lost her battle in 2017.

Spanish teacher Ryan Crigger said Riverdale’s family has raised more than $250,000 to fight childhood cancer.

Crigger noted, “Thirty-two people raised money to shave their head in solidarity to raise money for cancer treatment.”
