Murfreesboro, TN – Here’s more on Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland announcement that City Manager Craig Tindall will be vacating his current position by July and transitioning to a different special counsel job within the city.

McFarland commended Tindall’s upper management team, which includes Assistant City Managers Darren Gore and Sam Huddleston.

Since the city hope to fill the city manager position from within, Mayor McFarland encourages city employees to apply in April, with the new job set to start by July 2. 2024.

The Murfreesboro City Council, including the mayor, accepted an amended contract for Tindall starting July 2, 2024. Under this contract, Tindall’s annual salary will be $110,000, approximately half of his previous annual $220,000 salary.

In his new role, he will serve as a special counsel attorney.

Scheduled interviews in May will involve Tindall’s upper-management team and the mayor-led Murfreesboro City Council. The council will either appoint a local applicant if possible or conduct a national search for the position.

Tindall, who served as city manager for six years and as the city attorney for over two years, expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to continue serving.

As you recall--in 2018, the Council promoted him to his current position, replacing former interim City Manager Jim Crumley, who was entering retirement at that time.

Tindall’s proposed new job will encompass four city operations. As the outgoing city manager, he requested to step away from day-to-day city management responsibilities after leading efforts on the next fiscal year budget, which begins on July 1, 2024.

In his proposed new contract, Tindall is asking to serve as a special counsel who will handle legal and administrative duties related to the Murfreesboro Airport, the new Community Investment Trust and the Solid Waste Authority.

Tindall's next scheduled radio broadcast on WGNS will be at 8:10AM Tuesday morning, April 30. That will be just before the job interviews for his position begin.
