Man Charged with Arson and False Report in Rutherford County Domestic Incident

Smyrna, TN - A suspect, identified as Marcus Anthony Ellis, aged 46 and residing on McNair Ave. in Smyrna, faces serious charges following an incident that occurred on April 18th. Ellis has been charged by the Rutherford County Fire Marshal’s Office investigators with felony setting fire to personal property and felony filing a false report to an officer, as announced by Fire Marshal Josh Sanders.

The charges are the result of an investigation into allegations that Ellis burned various personal belongings valued at $10,000 that did not belong to him. These items reportedly included clothing, furniture, electronics, computers, and photos, all owned by a cohabitant.
 
In addition to the fire-related charges, Ellis has also been charged by Rutherford County Sheriff’s deputies with domestic assault and evading arrest.
 
Currently, Ellis is held at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center on a bond set at $9,500. A court hearing is scheduled for June 25th in General Sessions Court to address the charges against him.
