The 2013 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, a partnership between Greenhouse Ministries and the United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties, completed 458 tax returns online and at Greenhouse Ministries with more than a $653,229 investment through tax refunds in Rutherford and Cannon Counties.
Jennifer Matikke, Coordinator of Community Impact at United Way, commented on the 2013 program saying, “We were excited to see growth in this year’s numbers over last year. Part of the increase was due to the online option available this year which we plan to utilize next year as well.”
This year’s VITA program marks the second year that Greenhouse Ministries and United Way have partnered to provide the service. The 2013 VITA program was available to any households with an annual income of $51,000 or less.
