Murfreesboro, TN - When every second counts, blood products play a crucial role in providing lifesaving care. The American Red Cross urges the public to donate blood or platelets during Trauma Awareness Month in May. This ensures that hospitals remain well-prepared for all transfusion needs, especially during emergencies. Here are some key points:

Type 0 Blood is Needed

  • Type O negative is the universal blood type. In critical situations where there’s no time to determine a patient’s blood type, emergency room personnel rely on type O negative blood.
  • Type O positive blood is the most commonly used blood type because it can be transfused to Rh-positive patients of any blood type.

Platelets

  • Platelets are essential for clotting in cases of massive bleeding.

Remember, it’s the blood already on the shelves that can make a difference in saving lives during an emergency. Book your donation appointment now by visiting RedCrossBlood.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS, or using the Red Cross Blood Donor App.

Here in Murfreesboro, the Red Cross is at 501 Memorial Boulevard. Phone 800-RED-CROSS (800-733-2767).

As a special incentive, thanks to Sport Clips Haircuts, all donors who come in between April 29 and May 31 will receive a coupon for a free haircut via email. Additionally:

  • Donors during this period will be automatically entered for a chance to win a trip for two and a VIP racing experience at the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series and Xfinity Races at Darlington Raceway over Labor Day weekend.
