It could be described as a scene out of Mall Cop, where security officer Paul Blart rides a Segway to patrol the mall…

As one might imagine, those two wheeled electric Segway’s are expensive modes of transportation… especially for the City of Murfreesboro. Luckily, insurance will likely cover their loss, or your loss depending on how you look at this story considering you are likely a tax paying citizen. That being said, an $8,000 Segway belonging to the city was reported as STOLEN.

The Police Department in Murfreesboro often uses the Segway to patrol the growing Greenway trail. Several days ago, an unknown person stole the city owned Segway from the General Bragg Trailhead. It must have been a somewhat humorous theft to witness, one complainant told police she saw a white male between the ages of 14 and 16 literally dragging an inoperable Segway down the concrete trail and then into the woods. Officers searched the area a day later for the rechargeable mode of transportation, but turned up empty handed.

It will now be a matter of waiting for the Segway to turn back up, as soon as the teen thief figures out a way to charge the vehicle and power it on. I think that some would agree that honestly, it would be too tempting for ar teen to not  take the Segway for a ride down the Greenway trail (opinion of course).

The stolen Segway was entered into the National Crime Information Center (N.C.I.C.).
