Rockvale, TN - In the world of women's rodeo, Bronc riding is a classic event. This year, two competitors finished with an identical score of 159, resulting in a tie after the two-day World Finals at Cheyenne Frontier Days on Championship Sunday.
Katie Coker, 25, from Rutherford County and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael R. Coker of Rockvale, stood alongside her co-champion to receive the title. The accolades included a $3,000 custom saddle, a World Champion belt buckle, and her name engraved on the bronze trophy honoring the "Year of the Cowgirl."
Currently leading by approximately 100 points, Katie's 2025 season is already in full swing, and she is set to compete again tonight in Deadwood, South Dakota.
Katie earned a degree in Biology/Chemistry from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and was named the Top Female Athlete of 2017 at Lipscomb Academy in Nashville, Tennessee.
Perhaps last year you read on WGNS' e-news how Katie wraped-up her first year with 12 competitive rides. 2023 was her first attemp at the title, and it was a mere 1.5 seconds away from winning. This year Katie did!
No one from Tennessee has ever achieved such a level of success in professional rodeo. Congratulations to Katie Coker!
