Approximately 50 gallons of diesel fuel was spilled in La Vergne on Friday morning after a truck hit a storm culvert and ruptured its fuel tank. The Boyd Trucking driver Ames Larrysharn, age 33 was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of the accident.

 

Shortly after 2:00 a.m., La Vergne police responded to another call at the Kroger on Murfreesboro Road when they noticed the strong odor of gasoline and saw a large amount of fuel in the roadway and pooled in a field located on Madison Square Drive. Emergency services personnel tracked the spill to the TA Truck facility at the corner of I-24 and Old Hickory Blvd. in Antioch.

 

When the driver hit the storm culvert, he stopped to remove the cover from his vehicle which had ruptured the fuel tank and left the scene with fuel pouring from his truck.

 

At this time, fire personnel are cleaning the spill from the roadway and waiting for officials from the trucking company to clean the field.

 

Drivers are urged to use caution on Friday morning because the sheen of diesel could create hazardous road conditions for driving. Roadways affected with the largest amount of spilled fuel include Madison Square Drive in La Vergne and the intersection of Nir Shreibman Blvd. and Murfreesboro Rd. 41/70.
