The American Diabetes Association to Benefit from Local Golf Tournament

May 24, 2013 at 05:00 am by Bryan Barrett

In 1976, Bill Carey coordinated a new fundraiser to benefit the charity of his choice, the American Diabetes Association, among other local needs and requests. His idea was to sponsor a one-day golf scramble with 144 players with fun and prizes for everyone. This event was to be played on a warm June afternoon at his new development on Hwy. 231, Fox Run. The four-man format allowed any player to be a part of the team regardless of skill level - playing best-ball from each player’s shot. If a player got a hole-in-one, they would win a new car! Many other prizes and gifts were added over the years to engage more players and support. In 1997, Bill saw the need for additional funds for the local REALTOR® Scholarship Fund and volunteered to share the proceeds of the Golf Scramble to help fund additional student scholarships.

Over the years, many other groups have started a tradition of fun and funds through golf scrambles, but the Bill Carey REALTOR® Golf Scramble was the first in Rutherford County. This is “The Original” - raising over $200,000 in support of the American Diabetes Association and the Middle Tennessee Association of REALTORS® Scholarship Fund.

The 36th Annual Bill Carey REALTOR ® Golf Scramble presented by First Community Mortgage is scheduled for June 5, 2013 at Indian Hills Golf Club. Lunch for players will be served at 11:30am with a Shotgun Start at 1:00pm. The event promises lots of fun and some great prizes! Hole-in-one prizes from Ford of Murfreesboro include a 2013 Ford Edge SE (2-year lease) and golf getaways to Treetops Golf Resort in Gaylord, Michigan and Revere Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nevada. Registration is open for individuals at $100 and teams, $400.

Major sponsors of the 36th Annual Bill Carey REALTOR® Golf Scramble include the Blue Raider Athletic Association, Realtracs, Guaranty Trust, Foundation Title and Escrow, Ascend Federal Credit Union, Waterstone Title and First National Mortgage Services. Sponsorship opportunities are still available.
