The Riverdale DECA chapter recently made the journey to Anaheim, CA. DECA, formed in 1946, stands for Distributive Education Clubs of America, however it is referred to as An Association of Marketing Students even though the abbreviation remains the same.
Students from Riverdale won a state competition in Tennessee which earned them the trip to California two weeks ago. The competitions on the West Coast revolved around marketing, finance, hospitality and management. According to the DECA website, the association prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. The Riverdale DECA chapter is the Largest Chapter in Tennessee and one of the top 10 in the WORLD!
In “Cali,” the RHS Buying and Merchandising Operations Research Event led to three top 16 winners from the Rutherford County operated school. Those three who placed in the top 16th position included Haley Dawson, Gabby Shrader, and Abby Shaw (all pictured above).
The DECA leader at Riverdale is Mrs. Tyra Pilgrim, a marketing teacher. Her class learns a variety of skills in marketing, interviewing, professional etiquette and more.
