Murfreesboro, TN – Approximately 300 persons bundled-up and braved the 20-degree temperatures to honor Dr. King in the Annual MLK March. March Coordinator Shawn Brown took the “inclement weather route” as it left Central Magnet School and went across East Main and down S. Hancock Street to MLK, Jr. Boulevard, and right to the Patterson Community Center for an afternoon of historical tributes to Dr. King.

Donuts and hot coffee were the popular treat while participants mixed and mingled at Central Magnet School between the 11:00 o’clock and noon time period.

Brown noted, “Despite the Arctic blast, the spirit of the MLK Marches remained strong. Marching in the frigid 20-degree temperatures demonstrates the resilience and dedication of the community. It is a testament to the enduring impact of Dr. King's work and the collective commitment to continue his fight for justice and equality. They bring together people from all walks of life, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose.”

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a significant federal holiday in the United States, observed on the third Monday of January each year. It honors the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a pivotal figure in the Civil Rights Movement who advocated for nonviolent resistance against racial discrimination. The day is marked by various events, including marches, parades, and community service activities, reflecting King's commitment to equality, justice, and service.

Here in Murfreesboro the MLK Marches have become a cherished tradition, symbolizing unity and the ongoing fight for civil rights. These marches not only honor Dr. King's legacy but also serve as a reminder of the work that still needs to be done to achieve his dream of equality and justice for all.
