Another alert from the Murfreesboro Police Department’s Real Time Crime Center has resulted in the recovery of a stolen vehicle. On January 30, police confirmed that a license plate reader detected a stolen Nissan Altima. Following the alert, MPD’s Crime Data Analysts tracked the stolen vehicle to Jackson, Tennessee. The License Plate Readers (LPRs) alerted officers when the car returned to Murfreesboro.
Subsequently, the vehicle was located at the Chariot Pointe Apartments on Northfield Blvd. The 17-year-old driver was arrested for theft of property and was taken directly to the Juvenile Detention Center. A man standing outside the car conversing with the teenager received a misdemeanor citation for simple possession of marijuana.
Due to the suspect's age, few details are available regarding why the teen was in possession of a stolen vehicle from Jackson.
It was a similar story involving a stolen car in nearby Lebanon, Tennessee. There, officers responded to the RaceTrac gas station on S. Cumberland after receiving reports of a vehicle theft that occurred while the owner was inside the store. Officers immediately began canvassing the area for any signs of the stolen vehicle.
With the assistance of Safenet technology, a tracking system that allows for rapid location of stolen vehicles, officers were able to effectively pinpoint the vehicle at the QuikTrip gas station on Sparta Pike.
The suspect, identified as a 33-year-old male from Mississippi, was taken into custody without incident. He has been charged with theft of property.
Lebanon Police Chief expressed appreciation for the swift actions of the responding officers and highlighted the importance of utilizing advanced technology in their operations. "We are grateful for the quick work of our officers, and our department is thankful to be able to utilize technology to better serve our community," he stated.
