ALICE in Rutherford County: Unveiling the Hidden Struggles of Working Families

RUTHERFORD COUNTY,  TN  - The League of Women Voters (LWV) of Murfreesboro/Rutherford County, the United Way of South Central Tennessee, the Human Development and Family Science Program, and the Social Work Department of Middle Tennessee State University are proud to present an important ALICE Report program on Tuesday, February 18.

ALICE, an acronym for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed, is a new way of defining and understanding the struggles of households that earn above the Federal Poverty Level but not enough to afford basic necessities.

Currently, 46% of households in Rutherford County live on the verge of financial instability and struggle to meet basic needs.

Please join the League of Women Voters (LWV) of Murfreesboro/Rutherford County, the United Way of South Central Tennessee, and the Human Development and Family Science Program at Middle Tennessee State University for a detailed presentation on select components of the ALICE Report.

Several organizations have been invited to share their experiences providing direct services to ALICE families, including:

  • Launch Point
  • The Family Center
  • Legal Aid Society
  • Workforce Essentials
  • Murfreesboro City Schools
  • Rutherford County Schools

These organizations will discuss the challenges faced by ALICE households and explore actions that neighbors, employers, public leaders, and community organizations can take to help reduce the percentage of households living on the brink of financial instability.
