RUTHERFORD COUNTY SCHOOLS - Rutherford County Schools will be CLOSED Thursday, along with the Schools. Central Office. All Wednesday night extracurricular activities are postponed. Thursday night's school board meeting will be rescheduled to Monday.
James Evans, Chief Communications Officer with Rutherford County Schools, sent parents a message on Wednesday to inform them that the schools would remain closed on Thursday (see below)...
"While most of the major roadways have been cleared, there are several secondary and neighborhood roads that are still impacted. Law enforcement reports there have been several wrecks and has encouraged motorists to stay off the roads if possible. The temperatures also remain below freezing and are expected to be in the single digits tomorrow morning.
So with all of that in mind, all Rutherford County Schools will remain closed tomorrow — Thursday, February 20. The central office will also remain closed, and 12-month school-based classified employees should not report to work.
As for extracurricular activities for today, they have been canceled, and any sports tournaments are being rescheduled. The schools and coaches will communicate this information directly to parents and student-athletes. We will make an announcement about tomorrow’s extra-curricular activities by noon on Thursday.
We know closing schools can be an inconvenience for some parents, but safety has to be considered first. We are making this announcement early to give parents time to make adjustments and plans."
COUNTY SCHOOLS CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES - Reports indicate that 12-month school based classified employees will not report on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2025.
COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD: Thursday’s School Board meeting is rescheduled to Monday, Feb. 24, 2025.
MURFREESBORO CITY SCHOOLS - Meanwhile in the City Limits of Murfreesboro, officials there have also decided to remain closed on Thursday (Feb. 20, 2025). Murfreesboro City Schools announced, "Murfreesboro City Schools will remain closed tomorrow, Thursday, Feb 20. ESP will be open at their designated inclement weather sites with modified hours."
