Murfreesboro, TN - Rutherford County School’s Chief Communications Officer James Evans has been awarded the Tennessee School Public Relations Association (TNSPRA) 2025 School Communicator of the Year award. He has been with the district since September 2004 and has played a significant role in shaping its communication strategies.
Receiving the Tennessee SPRA School Communicator of the Year award is a significant honor. It recognizes outstanding leadership, communication skills, professionalism, and community involvement in the field of school public relations. The award highlights Evans’ ability to effectively communicate and engage with various stakeholders, including students, parents, staff, and the broader community.
The award is given to individuals who demonstrate excellence in their role as school communicators, showcasing their ability to lead successful communication campaigns, overcome challenges, and create strategic communication plans. It also acknowledges their strength in both personal and organizational communication, as well as their contributions to the community.
Earlier, James and his Rutherford County School’s team received three national awards from the National School Public Relations Association for their outstanding work in communications.
Before joining Rutherford County Schools, Evans worked as a reporter and editor for several publications, including the Nashville Business Journal and The Tennessean. He holds a degree in journalism from Middle Tennessee State University.
Evans will be on WGNS this coming Tuesday morning (3/4/2025; 8:15-9:00AM) to focus on Rutherford County Schools. In addition to talking about this honor, Tuesday’s program will include the school system’s Coordinator of New Teacher Programs & Recrutment Janet Flannery along with Human Resource Specialist Laura Caban.
