UPDATE: Truck Located - Metro Police in Nashville and surrounding communities are still on the lookout for an unknown subject who was driving a Toyota Tundra that was involved in a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred on Monday night. The crash that dragged the victim about 900-feet, claimed the life of 65-year-old Charles A. Fountain from Jacksonville, Florida, who was riding a motorized scooter along Old Hickory Boulevard near Firestone Parkway.

Originally, authorities believed they were searching for a dark-colored Toyota Tacoma, but later investigations revealed a second video that provided a clearer view of the vehicle. It turns out the truck was actually a full-sized Toyota Tundra rather than the smaller Tacoma model. The vehicle was recovered Wednesday in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Davidson County. While the truck was located outside the apartments on Edmonson Pike, the driver was not.

In the collision, Fountain, an over-the-road truck driver, had parked his tractor-trailer at the TA Truck Stop. He left his vehicle to visit a nearby Dollar General Store and was making his way back when the Toyota struck him. Witnesses have stated that the pickup truck dragged Fountain’s scooter for more than 900 feet before the vehicle became dislodged.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Fountain was hit near the I-24 interchange shortly before 7 p.m. It is believed that he had just exited the Dollar General Store parking lot, rode along the shoulder of Old Hickory Boulevard, and attempted to cross the road when the collision occurred. Eyewitnesses reported seeing sparks emanating from underneath the pickup truck as it dragged the scooter away from the scene.

Following the impact, the driver of the pickup fled the area, traveling on Old Hickory Boulevard toward Murfreesboro Pike. The authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident, or who may have been driving the truck to come forward. Tips can be provided anonymously by contacting Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463, and callers may be eligible for a cash reward.

Again, the unknown driver was in a Toyota Tundra, as opposed to the smaller Toyota Tacoma that he was originally thought to be driving.
