The average price for a gallon of 87-octane fuel is a jaw-dropping $2.68 today, according to AAA, the Auto Club. Mississippi is basking in glory as they claim the gold medal for the cheapest gas in the country, with prices plummeting to an average of $2.62 per gallon. And let's not forget Kentucky, valiantly taking second place, where regular unleaded is a mere $2.66 per gallon. What a thrilling race for gas prices!
Out of all 95 counties in the state, Rutherford County is ranked number 14 on the list of the cheapest counties for gas. As of 2 PM on Monday afternoon, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded in Rutherford County was a staggering $2.60. Just a month ago, we were reveling in the joy of prices being .7 cents higher in the Murfreesboro/Smyrna area at $2.67 per gallon. Prices are even cheaper if you head down Highway 231 South. In Bedford County, a gallon of 87-octane is an incredible $2.51. East of the ‘Boro in Woodbury, regular unleaded is priced a whopping .14 cents higher than Rutherford County. There, the cost of regular is hitting $2.74 per gallon.
And you can't forget Williamson County! Home to Brentwood and Franklin, they continue to proudly wave their flag of high prices, with regular unleaded gas selling for $3.05. Meanwhile, in the metropolis of Nashville, the average price for a gallon of 87-octane sits at a thrilling $2.72. That’s a whole 5 cents less than last month’s prices on February 10. What a relief!
Overall, gas prices across the state fell a stunning seven cents on average over the last week. The Tennessee Gas Price average is now an astonishing $2.68—eight cents less expensive than last month and a whopping 40 cents less than one year ago. Hooray for savings!
For those who power their ride with diesel, the current average price per gallon is $3.40 in Tennessee, placing the Volunteer State at number 18 on the list of cheap diesel prices. And just to keep the excitement going, 12 months ago, diesel was at a jaw-dropping $3.81 per gallon in the Volunteer State.
When comparing state-to-state, Tennessee ranks 18th on the diesel price list. Oklahoma, known for its hand-breaded fried beef steak, has the cheapest diesel in the United States at only $3.14 per gallon. Coming in at number two on the list is the vast Lone Star State—Texas—with average prices of $3.20 per gallon. Missouri ranks third, with diesel priced at $3.26 per gallon.
