RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - Law enforcement agencies across Tennessee will be out in full force on Friday, March 14, as part of Operation Impact I-24 Traffic Enforcement. The 24-hour initiative, running from midnight to 11:59 p.m., aims to reduce crashes and traffic fatalities along the stretch of Interstate 24 between the Kentucky and Georgia state lines.
The Rutherford County Traffic Safety Task Force is joining forces with the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) and officers from multiple counties to crack down on dangerous driving behaviors. Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) Lt. Shawn Boyd emphasized that officers will be targeting aggressive and distracted drivers in an effort to prevent deadly accidents.
“We will watch for aggressive and distracted drivers in an effort to curb our fatalities,” Boyd stated. THP Trooper David Haga added that officers will also focus on impaired drivers, reckless and aggressive behavior, speeding, cell phone use while driving, and seat belt violations.
Law enforcement agencies from Rutherford, Montgomery, Robertson, Davidson, Coffee, Grundy, Marion, and Hamilton counties will participate in the operation. Locally, the Rutherford County Traffic Safety Task Force includes THP, police departments from Murfreesboro, Smyrna, La Vergne, MTSU, York VA, and Eagleville, along with the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, Tennessee Highway Safety Office, and the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
The THSO provides grant funding to support increased enforcement efforts during this campaign. Motorists are encouraged to drive safely and remain aware of the increased patrol presence along I-24. For more information, visit www.tntrafficsafety.org.
