Founded by former Murfreesboro City Councilman and Vice Mayor Ron Washington, the Horizon Group aims to promote personal growth and community involvement. The event’s theme, “We All Rise When We Lift Others Up,” underscores its mission to inspire collective action and awareness.

This Saturday’s event will be moderated by Dr. Gloria Bonner, a seasoned educator and dean emeritus of education at Middle Tennessee State University.  A panel of community leaders will feature representatives from key local organizations, including the Murfreesboro Planning Department, Murfreesboro Housing Authority, Rutherford County Property Assessor’s Office, MTSU’s Business and Economic Research Center, and Rutherford County Election Commission.

Attendees will have the opportunity to submit questions during a Q&A session following the presentations.

Washington emphasized, “Our community is prosperous, growing, and thriving in many areas. But it’s also clear that a certain amount of apathy has developed about how decisions are being made by our elected leaders, governmental agencies, and business community that affect many citizens. It impacts everything from infrastructure to housing to voting rights. The best way to combat that apathy is information and engagement.”

The event is cosponsored by the Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Department. It promises to be a valuable opportunity for residents to gain insights from experts and contribute to meaningful discussions about the future of their community.

Again, the FREE “Community Engagement Collaboration” begins at 10:00 o’clock this Saturday morning (3/22/2025) in the Washington Theatre of the Patterson Community Center.
