An over nine-hour, four game marathon by the WGNS Primetime Sports team started and ended at Siegel for baseball yesterday (Wednesday), with baseball at Smyrna and softball at StarPlex in between.

Facing elimination, Riverdale won a pair of games yesterday. They defeated Kingport Dobyns-Bennett 2-1 in the 10am game. Then, they got behind Brentwood 4-nothing after the first inning in the 6pm game. They got two runs back in the bottom of the first, but it was Trevor Sutton who delivered the game changing blow in the third...

Jon Dinkins had the call on WGNS State Farm prep sports as the Warriors went on to defeat the Bruins 8-4. Riverdale will play Collierville this afternoon at 2, also at Siegel. They must win twice to advance to the championship game.

Also in baseball, just a day after defeating Dyersburg 5-4, Central Magnet had to face the Trojans again, both facing elimination after C-M-S lost to Pigeon Forge earlier in the day. The Tigers fall 5-to-nothing. Their second season of varsity baseball play ended in the state's final six.

In softball, Smyrna, winners of their last eight, defeated Clarksville 2-1 to advance to the winners bracket semifinals. Pitcher MaKenzie Prince hit a solo homer to give her team the win. They'll face Dickson County today, around 6pm. The Lady Cougars were the last team to beat Smyrna 24-days ago. A win would put the Lady Bulldogs in the championship game.

Riverdale, which lost their first game to Dickson County yesterday faced elimination in their contest versus Seymour. Riverdale scored their first run in the first inning. It wasn't until the bottom of the fifth third-baseman Kristen Uselton gave the Lady Warrior's some insurance...

Bryan Barrett had that game on WGNS. Riverdale, facing must win games from here on out, will tackle Clarksville around 12pm.

WGNS State Farm coverage of the Blue Cross Spring Fling will continue today. Jon Dinkins and Bryan Barrett will broadcast the Riverdale/Clarksville softball game around noon, followed by Riverdale baseball versus Collierville. It's possible we could have Riverdale softball or baseball around 4pm just before the nightcap, Smyrna softball versus Dickson County. You can listen live on FM 100.5, FM 101.9, AM 1450 or worldwide at wgnsradio.com.
