RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WGNS) - Rutherford County residents should prepare for a warm and dry summer, as forecasts indicate above-average temperatures across the region.
According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, Middle Tennessee is expected to experience a gradual rise in temperatures, with June starting near normal before heat intensifies in July and August.
The Climate Prediction Center reports that Rutherford County has a 33-50% chance of seeing hotter-than-average temperatures from June through August, with precipitation levels remaining uncertain. Historically, the area averages 79 degrees during this period, with about four inches of rain per month.
Looking Back at 2024
Last summer ranked among the hottest in U.S. history. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) recorded an average temperature of 73.8 degrees nationwide from June to August 2024, making it the fourth-warmest summer on record.
Rainfall was also below normal, with Tennessee experiencing its second-driest August ever.

Meteorological summer starts on June 1, while astronomical summer officially begins with the June solstice on June 20.
