NASHVILLE, TN - After more than two years of investigation, Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) officials have arrested 25-year-old Torion Bean Jr. in connection with the February 2023 hit-and-run crash that killed 26-year-old Kimberly Benezue of Clarksville.
Benezue was driving on Dickerson Pike near Old Hickory Boulevard on the night of February 4 when her Mazda 3 was struck by a stolen Dodge Charger traveling at nearly twice the speed limit. Bean, allegedly behind the wheel, fled the scene on foot. Benezue died at the scene.
MNPD Traffic Unit investigators and the department's Crime Laboratory worked tirelessly to identify a suspect. DNA evidence collected from items left in the stolen Charger eventually led to Bean. Additional DNA results are still pending.
The Charger had been reported stolen just under three hours before the deadly crash and had been seen drag racing prior to the impact. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but it fled. Seconds before the crash, the Charger was recorded traveling 69 mph in a 35 mph zone.
Bean, previously convicted of vehicle theft and robbery in 2019, was on probation at the time of the crash. He was apprehended in Chapel Hill, Tennessee, and initially held by the Marshall County Sheriff's Office.
Bean now faces multiple charges, including criminal homicide, reckless aggravated assault, vehicle theft, evading arrest, and leaving the scene of a fatal accident. He remains in custody with bond set at $150,000.
