RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN – The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office has announced the promotion of Training Deputy Kyle Grisham to sergeant in the patrol division, marking another milestone in his distinguished law enforcement career. Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh officially appointed Grisham to the new role, where he will oversee critical training and crisis intervention initiatives.
Leading Virtual Reality Training for Crisis Response
In his new capacity, Sgt. Grisham will serve as the sergeant of the Virtual Reality De-escalation Site-Based Initiative grant, a program designed to provide pre-scripted crisis intervention training. The initiative aims to evaluate the effectiveness of virtual reality training in comparison to traditional in-person techniques, ensuring officers are equipped with cutting-edge methods to handle tense situations safely and effectively.
Extensive Experience in Law Enforcement and Training
Grisham has been a key figure in the Training Division, serving as a Master Instructor for firearms training and SWAT firearms instruction for new deputies and in-service personnel. His expertise has been instrumental in preparing officers for real-world scenarios.
His dedication to public safety and training excellence has earned him numerous accolades, including:

Before joining the Sheriff’s Office in 2013, Grisham served with the Smyrna Police Department, where he worked as a School Resource Officer (SRO).
