MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – (May 13, 2025) – The man discovered deceased inside a locked Hummer at a Murfreesboro tow yard has been identified as 63-year-old Dale Hilsabeck of Lansing, Michigan, according to Murfreesboro Police. Hilsabeck was found on May 1 inside his 2007 Hummer H3 at E.A. Towing on Southpointe Court. The SUV had been towed from the Murfreesboro Walmart on April 5 after it was reported abandoned. Employees discovered the body while processing the vehicle for a tow lien, nearly a month later.
Authorities say Hilsabeck was lying on a sleeping mat in the back of the vehicle. The Hummer’s windows had been covered with blackout material, and the backseat was folded down, obscuring visibility from the front. A strong odor and presence of flies prompted employees to investigate further.
Police confirmed Hilsabeck was the registered owner of the vehicle. An autopsy has been ordered to determine his cause of death and how long he had been deceased.
Murfreesboro Police's Violent Crimes Unit is continuing to investigate the case. At this time, there is no suspicion of wrongdoing by the towing company or Walmart, both of which are cooperating fully with the investigation.
