Authorities confirmed that the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the arrest.

At the time of the fatal crash, Abernathy claimed he had been sitting in the rear seat while Bryant was driving. However, further investigation revealed Abernathy had been behind the wheel. Police believe the SUV was traveling at speeds exceeding 100 mph just before the collision.

The task force located Abernathy at a residence on Autumn Oaks Drive in Brentwood. With support from the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office Drone Unit, he was arrested without incident. Abernathy was transported to the Davidson County Detention Center and booked on the outstanding charges.

The U.S. Marshals Middle Tennessee Fugitive Task Force is a multi-agency operation serving the Middle District of Tennessee. Members include Deputy U.S. Marshals, sheriff’s deputies from Putnam, Rutherford, and Sumner Counties, Metro Nashville Police Officers, agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Tennessee Department of Correction, and troopers from the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
